US airlines to start Cuba flights next month

27 October 2016

Three US airlines that fly from Bermuda are to start scheduled services to Havana. Travellers from Bermuda can make connections in a number of US cities to reach the Cuban capital.

Travellers from Bermuda who want to visit Havana will soon be able to choose from three US airlines that fly connections to the Cuban capital.

Last month, American Airlines, JetBlue and Delta Air Lines, were among a group of carriers cleared by the US Department of Transportation to operate scheduled flights to Havana.

For decades there have been no direct scheduled flights from the US to Cuba. That changed earlier this year, when the US loosened restrictions on travel to the Caribbean country.

JetBlue has now announced it will start its scheduled flights to Havana at the end of next month.

The airline, which has services from Bermuda to Boston and New York’s JFK International Airport, is to start daily flights from JFK and Havana on November 28.

The airline is touting its additional one-stop shop services designed to make flying to Havana an easier experience.

The new service will include Cuban government-required health insurance, the ability to complete online a US-regulated affidavit necessary for travelling to Cuba from the US, and a day-of-travel Cuban Tourist Visa that can be collected at the airport before boarding the Havana flight.

JetBlue will also fly direct to Havana from Orlando and Fort Lauderdale, from November 29 and 30 respectively.

Delta Air Lines, which flies from Bermuda to JFK, Atlanta and Boston, will fly to Havana from JFK, Atlanta and Miami. It will commence flights on December 1.

American Airlines, which flies from Bermuda to JFK, Miami and Philadelphia, is offering direct flights to Havana from Miami and Charlotte. The airline will begin its Miami to Havana service on November 28, and its service from Charlotte on November 30.

Meanwhile, Air Canada, which links Bermuda to Toronto, already offers scheduled flights from Toronto to Havana.
